A profound (and deeply disturbing) look at darkness within.

It watches like a dream, and yet feels all to real. It taps into something deep and unsettling that we all somehow know but don't care to look at. "It's a strange world"... I was captivated. Incredible performances that are not only completely convincing of a different era, but also of fragile and fracturing mindstates. Of course, the visuals and sound design contribute to that in a large way, and serve to transport the viewer into a different reality where superstition and mythology are entirely believable and terrifying. What a masterfully woven tale, and beautifully realized.

There are layers to this film that I'm not ready to speak to, but to say the least, it's left me with a lot to consider... For me, that's the mark of a great film.
