Such a strange resolution to have a heroic scott glenn defeat an evil golem that was about to KILL HITLER IN 1941. The look over the shoulder from mckellan is so deeply powerful as he realises what he's done. The film is asking to what extent we can become evil and violent in order to defeat other evil and violent people. Ultimately the film decides there is a limit, but it doesn't do so lightly.
On the other side of things, great fun to watch a big monster kill a bunch of nazis! Also visually stunning.
