    The Fifth Element

The plot is a little wacky, but the film is a very enjoyable and funny experience. It's a very unique space opera/sci-fi film. It does not take itself very seriously, but its goofiness makes it very fun. If you don't like the very strict rules and world building of Star Wars, you might enjoy this.

    Scream

    ★★★★

Despite the movie's self-awareness, and poking fun at horror stereotypes and tropes, it still manages to be very thrilling and terrifying. It has a perfect balance of comedy and horror. The setting makes it scary, as it is a slasher, lacking the supernatural elements of the other films we have watched, and is apart from some moments a very realistic scenario.

The first Studio Ghibli movie I ever watched, and perhaps the best. A beautiful display of the imagination and cheer of childhood. A very innocent and feel-good story. Nostalgic in a way.

Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind

    ★★★★

A feel-good story about saving the world, but with an important message about pacifism and environmental awareness. Despite being threatened by destruction, Nausicaa, the heroine of the movie, chooses peace and empathy as the solution. The insects are quite disgusting to look at and are very violent, but Nausicaa still has love for them. Violence and war can be short term solutions, but unity offers a long-term solution.
