One of the best movies I’ve seen, not just about antiquity, but ever!
I’ve never seen any actor so we’ll cast as Hercules as Dwayne Johnson is. Wonderful performance. However, the movie was advertised as a cool retelling of Hercules’ Labours, which is only really touched on in the first seven or so minutes. The rest of the movie is rather underwhelming. Also, the historian in me was repulsed by the fact that they set it in classical Greece instead of the Heroic Age.

There are so few movies that really hit in ancient Egypt unless it’s about mummies or Cleopatra. It was a fun ride seeing more of Egypt in cinema, even though it was very fantastical. I think the casting was filled with excellent actors who had no business being in it. I don’t think there’s a single Egyptian cast in this movie. It would have been so much better with more appropriate casting and better dialogue. Also, Bek was super annoying.
