somehow, despite its problematic historical inaccuracies, this is still a transcendent piece of cinema to me. i watched it last week and had a darn near spiritual experience, but can also certainly empathize with some of the issues people take with this film.
Had only seen Badlands and Days Of Heaven before this and while I enjoyed them both immensely, I didn't quite understand why Terrance Malick was being held in the same regard as some of the greatest auteurs of his time. After experiencing this work, I feel like I'm starting to get it.
