Doug Liman's update of the late 80's sleazy action classic keeps the violence but jettisons the goofiness of it's premise and characters (as well as the sincerity). It's sexless and piles on the wink-wink, nudge-nudge irony. Characters are underwritten, subplots are setup then abandoned; it's lacking in confidence.
