  Subject matter was compelling but didn’t find enough meat here for 90 minutes. Stanton was endearing and I’m surprised they didn’t mine the cave rescue for more characterization but the rest of the cast was spread too thin.   The director yelled “who’s ready for some tentacle porn?” before our screening and I will bet money that the thought of giving that speech was the sole impetus for making this movie. Tonally, stylistically, and sexually confused with no anchor: they flip-flop so many times on whether we should find the alien’s antics charming or disturbing that the scenes feel as if they were shuffled in a random order.
