As just a movie it's a great one, heartfelt, deep with moments of humour but as a commentary in civil rights and race in America I think it was altogether toothless and falls into the trap of doing exactly what a young Louis as portrayed in the film would accuse it of being. Portraying the Black Panther party and Louis' BP militant girlfriend as the bad guys was certainly a choice.
