I was floored when I first watched Kaili Blues in early 2019 - as my first real introduction to Chinese film, slow cinema, and (frankly) film that de-emphasized prosaic narrative over poetic meaning, I genuinely struggled to understand what I found so compelling about it after my first viewing.
