Lower-stakes Uncut Gems, but I always love a slice-of-life story.
Unsurprisingly, most non-white communities share similar extended family dynamics. That stressful, enmeshed yet distant, loving relationship with everyone. This movie perfectly captures that chaotic claustrophobic energy, reminding me of every funeral, wedding, graduation, baby shower, and community event I’ve ever attended.

I’ll start from the end—I left the theater in tears. Every girl, and I mean every girl (and for some of us, not so deep inside), wants to be saved. That’s what this movie captures: the loneliness of being a woman, especially one like Anora—a beautifully tragic, fucked-up Cinderella.
