Brilliantly acted. Anti-noir at its finest with just enough melodrama peppered throughout to remind us that these characters aren’t just fixtures of the industrialized landscape. Bogart and Stanwyck would turn in their graves, but I had a blast.

The Killing of a Sacred Deer 2017
Towering and unyielding in its critique of the static western patriarchy, particularly its upper “caste” structure. Yorgos’ approach to the movement of the actor and dialogue delivery in particular are extremely Bresson-like and leads to a deepening of the critique. We are able to distance ourselves from the characters because of their clipped, off-beat rhythms, and yet, their actions and words still often reflect our own inner experiences or opinions, therefore creating a bond that exists beneath the surface.
