RIP David Lynch. I feel like discussion on this one is the bell curve meme. The obvious takes are the probably what was intended. Everything else is people wanting jerk off to their own intellect, and they do so with skill. Jacobs Ladder was a better and more thought provoking mind-bender IMO. This one insisted upon itself a bit.
Rounding up from 2.5. Blanchet is blameless, she really became someone else for this role. I was told Tar is a musical god more than shown. The ghost angle could have been done more. The pursuit of subtlety stifled the storytelling. I had a hard time caring for her or anyone else - which I know is the point to an extent, but that doesn't mean I have to enjoy it. Finishing this one felt like a chore. Everything Everywhere…
It knows what it is and does what it sets out to do. Feels good, turns off your brain, takes you somewhere else for a while.
But thinking you can be an attorney after only a four year undergrad degree is unforgivable. How did NOBODY on this set catch that?
