Nolan strikes again and his obsession with nonlinear storytelling takes center stage. I believe this may be the film with his shortest shot duration. Editing it must have been a nightmare because simple things like changing locations is exhausting and disorienting. Hats off to the cast, everyone did an amazing job. Cillian Murphy was fantastic, although Emily Blunt was criminally underutilized. It’s a shame those performances were stuck with this film. The story is unfocused and presented as frenetically as a Michael Bay movie, which is fine for action for not so much for historical dramas.
Standard spy movie wrapped in a paper thin sci-fi gimmick that doesn’t stand up to much scrutiny.
Also I have to say (light spoiler warning), building up a battle scene for several minutes only to see soldiers running and shooting at nothing without showing any enemies is pretty fucking bold.
If you’re going to watch this, turn on the subtitles. 2 stars is generous.
