The Substance 2024
The Substance is grotesque, nauseating, and downright sinister. So much of this movie really works for me. The scene where Demi’s character is getting ready to go on the date had me on the verge of tears. The fidgeting with the clothes, adding more concealer, more blush, going to the door, catching yourself in a distorted reflection, going back in, fidgeting more, until the voice in your head takes over and you no longer want to leave the house. Gorgeous acting, gorgeous storytelling, gorgeous scene.
I have so much more to say but I’m having trouble formulating my thoughts into words.

Angry Inuk 2016
…because loosing your temper can be a sign of a guilty conscience. The song battles are long gone but we still try to stay calm and reasonable when we’re upset. How does a culture with an understated anger fight against a group that’s infamous for the exact opposite behavior?

Catch Me If You Can 2002
Yet another overhyped, mediocre movie about white men who don’t pay the consequences of their actions. Who’s going to tell Leonardo DiCaprio that he plays the same character in every movie?
But into the deeper part of this review: This is the perfect example of male white privilege and entitlement. Frank’s character literally pretends to be a doctor not caring if he endangers peoples lives, he uses women for his benefit, and gambles away people’s entire lives instead of going to therapy. White men with trauma are a threat to others by just existing.Translated from by
