There are two cinematic narratives here. One, the inside of the ballroom. Two, the outside. At no point are the participants asked to speak about their connection to a world of family and community outside the ballroom. This coupled with the white-outsider-realist-observer-documenter position that looks into the ballroom only as spectacle makes me think of voyeurism.
