Transformers: Dark of the Moon 2011
Still incoherently plotted, but less of the pureile humor automatically brought this up a level from the previous film. Though the action spectacle of this was mind blowing at times, Bay goes full on to create alien/robot apocalyptic mayhem and mostly succeeds, with his framing and vision for maximum carnage.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 2023
The MCU at its best though it feels like the end of an era. The action, design, and scope of the film are all amped up but the characters, especially Rocket, take centre stage for an emotional journey that's genuinely disturbing and heartwarming in equal measure. I've always enjoyed the risks James Gunn has taken as a mainstream filmmaker, he's unafraid to make his film's weird and experimental. There's some sequences and set design in the film that will leave an impression long after viewing.

Summer of Sam 1999
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
One of my all time favourite films and probably my favourite Spike Lee joint. The actions of serial killer Sam Berkowitz, provide the backdrop to the story as we follow the lives of several characters in a neighbourhood in New York. The tense and dangerous atmosphere expertly created by Spike, really comes through and puts into context some of the actions of some of the characters, I.e paranoia, doubt and anger.
The performances are also fantastic, especially from Adrian Brody…

Lethal Weapon 1987
Not watched this for about 15 years, so thought it due a re-watch and I thoroughly enjoyed it! One of the main aspects that came through for me was the authenticity of how real the action scenes felt. When the set pieces were occurring the action felt gritty and rough, I guess this was due to the old fashioned way of making movies (No CGI!).
