This really threw me into a spiral because on the one hand and in the realm of art for arts sake, this checked a lot of boxes for me. The performances, the aesthetics and Sean Baker’s overall style makes for a joy ride. On the other hand, I couldn’t shake off the missed opportunities to explore the darker realities of sex work which would have given us a deeper understanding of Ani as a protagonist. That being said, it did send me down a rabbit hole of research, so props to Sean Baker for spotlighting that world in his films.

Honestly, hell yea. I thought this was brilliant. Perfectly captured the suffocating feeling of being a woman navigating male spaces and having to smile through our discomfort. Every scene with the serial killer made my skin crawl. This turned me into an Anna Kendrick fan. Make more movies, Anna!
