Strange Darling 2023
Genuinely fun movie that is ultimately pointless. Or alternatively making an extremely dumb point. Entertaining, beautifully shot, fun to detangle, and then once you’ve untangled it you realize you’ve pulled apart a mediocre sweater and now you can’t even wear it for warmth. Not an effective genre deconstruction imo, sort of just deconstructs to twist plot and then shrugs at the consequences. Outside of that the acting is great cinematography is great score is great and it does contain a truly absurd breakfast prepared by Ed Begly Jr that got a more visceral reaction from me than many a horror film.
Overall cool vibe empty calories.

Cinema suffered greatly when they stopped making movies like this. Low-budget post-Matrix desaturated unserious masterpiece. Almost makes you think and then says nah that’s okay. Actually unnecessary. They blew their budget on Lucy Liu’s 10 collective minutes of screen time and it was worth it. Will never forget her 90s fifth element run lola run red bob wig <3
