First of all, don't watch this with your dad.
Secondly, David Lynch was a known defender of just doing whatever you want, and that, like life, art doesn't need to make sense. Now, not everything Lynch did was utter nonsense. There was mostly a meaning in what he did, but sometimes, as it is with this movie, it would just be there to confuse the viewer. Fire Walk With Me is like that.
