My brother had to watch this film as research for a date so I decided I would help him survive it. It was a lot better than I thought it was going to be!
I really appreciate this film's genuine faith in the power of dance. The dancing scenes are wonderful exclamation marks that release the tensions built up through the narrative.

Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters 1985
I was totally prevented from enjoying this film by being berated, smashed over the head with that artless wank score by Philip Glass. Seriously felt like we were listening to the same loud arpeggio for most of the 2 hour runtime.
The sets are amazing, the themes conveyed strongly, but just could not escape the feeling that the soundtrack was symbolic of the film itself - large, pretentious and self-important. Replace that score and maybe I could enjoy it the way others do.
