  america is hell. and this film truly is a masterpiece.

  (re)watched this on a big screen in restored 4K (director's cut) and it really is so apparent how much of this film's grasp hinges on yung martin sheen's beautiful face huh. i love looking at him look into the distance with a furrow to his brow that progressively gets deeper as we plunge into the absolute nonsensical nothingness that is the horror of the american war machine. it has to be in the top ten of liberals' favourite films. because they're that quote about hacking someone in half and then offering them a bandaid.
