Devastation finds New Rome when a former Soviet Satellite falls to earth. A relic from a bygone attempt to propel civilization into a higher form of social life crashes to the ground.
Throughout Megalopolis, Coppola seems to suggest that today our society is no closer to the mostly abandoned (and compromised) socialist project of the 20th century. Rather, social life has devolved into something which more closely resembles our tormented past as opposed to any sort of ideal, transcendent future.
