First broadway show I ever saw, so bias warning. This movie did such a good job taking one half of a musical (and some stuff from the book) and creating a 2 1/2 hour spectacle of talent and wonder. The right amount of creative liberties helped hold old fans and enrapture new ones. Wrap all that up in how pertinent the themes of empathy and sympathy are in today’s world, and you’ve got something special
