so so so much better than the originals. this one actually feels like a real story. decent, kind of interesting, and way less cringe.
i actually liked the main characters this time (huge win) and even rooted for them. all the little changes they made didn’t alter the original story but somehow made it so much richer. shocking, honestly.

god, i wanted to love this for ke huy quan, but i just couldn’t. the amount of secondhand embarrassment i endured was not okay. the property brother was a jumpscare.
the only saving grace was ke huy quan (expected) and some decent action scenes, but the storyline? i just can’t. also, JAMES FROM TWILIGHT???
no dialogue, no narration. just pure visual storytelling that pulls you in and doesn’t let go. the long, lingering shots let you sit with the beauty of it all, and i loved that.
the empathy woven into every frame is stunning. i fell for the cat immediately (watched this with my dog, and we were both very invested). that gang of dogs, though? kinda hated them, never thought i’d say that.
some moments were a bit confusing, but the emotional weight carried it through… until the whale. UNCALLED FOR!!! beautiful and deeply felt experience ◡̈
