It can't escape feeling like a play with the long continuous shots, and the lack of cutting makes everyone's acting stand out a lot. It's not bad acting, but somewhere along the line I never forget they're acting and let myself get lost in the story. Main guy is great, but all these kids are just ok. Overhyped, a movie without subtext. Not sure what they're talking about? Don't worry, they'll explain to you who Andrew Tate is. Felt like an after school special rather than an interesting or important take on a powerful subject matter
Taxi driver for environmentalists lands as a mixed bag with an unsatisfying ending. A lot of elements I love, but ultimately fell short. Also why is the editing in this so bad? And the fake text on that mega church building was distractingly bad.
The movie asks "what is it 5 Vietnam veterans can't do?" And the answer is: absolutely nothing. The emperor of dune stars as the titular McBain, a demure sigma metal worker called back in to avenge his fallen comrade. The movie tackles everything from CIA conspiracies and overthrowing Latin American dictatorships, to the inequities in big tech, all the while portraying the people of Columbia as a bunch of backwards donkey riding bullet fodder. But hey, the main chick doesn't wear a bra!
Truly an epic movie in it's scale, it has special FX that hold up incredibly well, fun action and set pieces, and a world that you want to fall into.
This directors approach to film making, "more violence and nudity", really is something we've lost in the mainstream as a society, and it's truly a shame.
