  Absolutely terrific performances from the whole cast, Demi Moore being the standout. "The Substance" is an unapologetic on-the-nose allegory about the oppressive heteronormative standards dictating the so-called female beauty ideal.   Martin McDonagh takes the existential absurdity in the disruption of amity and brotherhood of the Irish civil war and fluidly tranfuses that essence within the core of repressed frustrations and rural ennui. It is to the credit of Ben Davis that he makes such an isolated and limited piece of geography exude the vastness of the universe, thereby making the lost souls feel even more lost. McDonagh has once again created something sublime.

  "Oppenheimer" is Christopher Nolan's most challenging character study, even more than Ledger's Joker beacause this time there's no scope of psychological ambiguity as a result of an unreliable personality.
