I took a step back after I finished watching it, maybe because after all the praise this film received I was expecting something different, I thought it was building up some really sad impactful moment, but this was never the point. There’s just too much you don’t understand when you’re a child, everyone is protecting you from the harmful truth, and I guess that was the idea.
Sophie had the chance to look back to these videos and finally understand what her dad was going through, much like we as an audience will understand better these characters when we find ourselves in this situation.Translated from by
