Got told by a lot of people that this was very similar to Whiplash, and so in comparing two films I haven’t seen I built an idea in my mind that they were both mainly about dedication to a craft to the point of self-destruction. I was shocked to slowly realize that isn’t at all what I was watching and my experience was all the better for it.

Natalie Portman is INCREDIBLE in this and the script is already feeling like one of my favourites. Costume design is wonderful. Glad there’s one good Aronofsky movie.

Moves through about 5 different subgenres of movie while never becoming confusing, which alone is pretty impressive. Add that to great performances, beautiful cinematography, and incredible writing and you can see why it won the Palme this year.
Will definitely watch again. Bro is SO funny?

As for the movie itself: absolutely Breen’s best. Unlike his other films which sometimes lack basic features of narrative, Cade boasts continuity, moderately effective green screen, and even character development in an…

    Taste of Ambition

Small issues in writing, cinematography and mix combine to make this film struggle with telling its story and made the experience unimmersive for me personally.

To begin with writing: conceptually I like this film. I think that Claudia has potential as a character, and if her character was better written she could have brought some pleasant emotional complexity to the story. The idea of this righteous but brutal food critic is interesting. Unfortunately, she suffers a major design flaw -…
