I genuinely think this is The Godfather of our generation. It’s funny. So well written, acting is god-like. I think shaggy and scooby is one of the greatest comedic duos ever.
The book was jam-packed with both implicit and explicit messages, revealed through a much more detailed telling of the story. This film comes short in its representation of the characters and the story’s impact. This film needs to be 30ish minutes longer to include more significant details pulled from the book. It remains 3.5 stars because I love the book and the story it tells.
I read a lot of reviews of this movie and they are harshly over critical. The film itself is quite average. There are some iffy stylistic choices particularly with the camera work that made the film awkward.
However, the film also introduces super interesting commentary on a variety of issues we face, toxic masculinity, mental health, issues surrounding the military, and addiction.
I haven’t read the book, so I cannot state if it does the story justice.
Tom Holland did a fantastic job, as did his costar Ciara Bravo and most of the cast.
Strongly recommend watching.
