The first half is absolutely the best in the series (so far). Nerdstalgic has this great video on flying fights in superhero movies and how we don't feel the physicality of those fights - it doesn't directly relate here, but I think the concept of feeling a fight is a major element as to why the gunplay doesn't feel as impressive to me.
