Jarmusch has a talent for finding harmony in the mundane. I loved this film so much.

I recommended The Substance to my 71-year-old mother. She texted halfway through complaining, “Why are there so many butt shots?!” Otherwise, she appreciated the premise.

How is it even possible to maintain such high engagement and production quality for ten one-hour movies? What a remarkable achievement. Dekalog is a series about ethical dilemmas told with a hint of Christian allegory. It's heedful just enough to appeal to both religious and secular viewers. Welcome to my favorite four.

    Come and See

    ★★★½

While the performances and sound design in Come and See were undoubtedly phenomenal, I found some of the cosmetic choices with the cinematography and editing excessive and emotionally distracting. Depictions of wartime atrocities typically feel more authentic to me when they're presented simply and with few abstractions (i.e., The World at War (1973), and other documentaries). This is a matter of personal taste. Regardless, Come and See is certainly not a film without merit.
