This is my favorite film of all time. I am in love with everything about it. It’s sadness and joy and love and catharsis all through the lens of a googly-eye.

The Farewell 2019
This was the first time I’ve seen this movie in a long time, and honestly it surprised me. It’s so thoughtful, and refreshingly chooses to assume “with the audacity of a mediocre white man” that its American audience can understand Billi’s reality without drawn-out explanation. Awkwafina’s performance is shockingly amazing, and Lulu Wang’s care in writing and directing these delicate and layered scenes is so eloquent. As always, it definitely helps to understand Chinese, but I thought the translations were well-done and the bilingual dialogue added a layer to the cultural themes present in the film. Overall loved it!
