I’m a black person who’s from the Southwest and currently live there. I’m also a huge fan of all of the people involved in this project, including A24. Overall, I think this series was disappointing. At what point do we stop applauding white artists for showcasing their ignorance? Soooo this movie blatantly exploits the magical negro trope and then in the last 18ish minutes tries to bypass that exploitation by claiming that stereotype is all in the main characters head??? They can keep it. I'm tired of black people being used as plot devices and only serving a purpose to develop their white counterparts.
