  I think the Oscar nomination for best picture is no surprise. The comedic points of the film are as funny as the sad points are impactful - in this regard the picture is remarkably consistent. Its noteworthy how multidimensional every single character is and even the behaviour of characters with little screen-time (like Vanya’s dad, in particular in the scene where he uncontrollably laughs at Anora) come off as intentional and fit within the broader context of the movie.
