This movie was full of pretty underwhelming, flat dialogue. It was primed for a chess match between Blanchett and Fasbender but then pivots to a who dunnit of less compelling characters.
There were some nice Soderbergh pan shots and ominous spy music but really nothing about this kept me on the edge of my seat. The ending felt rushed and without the “oomph” Ocean’s had.
After the last Scorsese-DiCaprio pairing I left feeling content with a nearly perfect, ironic comment on the greed of American capitalism.
Unfortunately, the masses of frat bois could not see the message in front of them and mistook it for an invitation into the Joe Rogan, Cryptocurrency, investment banking, NFT making black hole that swallowed up the mid 2010s.
Part of me wonders if Scorsese felt the need to pick a story equally ambitious but without the possibility of misinterpretation…
