The Wedding Banquet 1993
There are so many wonderful and funny moments in this movie, but everything wrapped up way too neatly for my liking. The situation was ripe enough for plenty of conflict/comedy without some slightly convoluted plot points near the end.

No Other Land 2024
Nothing complicated about Israel’s occupation and dehumanization and killing of Palestinians, an injustice made even more appalling by the sheer amount of gaslighting and lies told by both the U.S. and Israel. Besides the obvious political and human rights messages in this movie, there’s also the story of how cameras and filmmaking can help capture the truth of events in irrefutable terms, a feat made even more astonishing given that almost every shot with the IDF involved soldiers either trying to grab filmmakers’ cameras away, terrorizing director Basel Adra’s family and neighbors, or shooting them.
