Can’t believe this is how movies have to be now for the next four years

Valley of the Dolls 1967
Sparse musical numbers with lucious colors, eye-popping collage sequences, over the top performances by actors completely committed to the lives of the characters they play, shadows outlined by artificial lights pouring in from windows, female characters written so uncomfortably well that the film is picked apart for being a “woman’s film”, sweeping title song intermittently playing in various versions, unabashed yet hidden sexuality, bleak ending turned hopeful at the last second. This is the last great old Hollywood melodrama. I do not love this film in a “so bad it’s good” way nor in an ironic way. I just love this movie.
