I found it rather lengthy but emotionally impactful and truthful. The last scene saves it from falling into full-on melodrama for me

I was so annoyed in the beginning but by the middle the extra current speech patterns and mannerisms had integrated seamlessly into a coherent coming of age story and were barely noticeable. I was surprised at how much the film moved me. That actor playing Chad is bloody excellent, I hope he's noticed and seen more.

Finally saw this classic. Unexpectedly modern sounding - not a shred of "of itals time" feeling about it; it coukd have been made today and felt just as sharp and topical. And I don't mean Joker, which is an apologia of incels - Taxi Driver is not about Travis, it's about the broken societal links that produced Travis. It's not an indictment, it's an insightful observation, with no moralising gaze.

I don't like art about rape because the culture is so poisoned it seems impossible to say anything meaningful about it. This film isn't an exception but it does a good job of building believable characters at least. You need a high tolerance for terminally online mannerism though.
