pros: the film is well made and generally well acted, with solid performances from Depp and Dafoe. the "atmosphere" captured in certain scenes is quite haunting and eerie, and these moments stand out.
beyond these moments, the film was mediocre and rather disappointing. it felt like a boring rehash of the source material, rather than a fresh reinterpretation. none of the horror elements felt scary and things felt jumbled thematically
