the first half or so is great, loved the humour; the film shines when it keeps its focus on the mother-daughter relationship, but i do agree that it got way too gimmicky as soon as the cancer plot kicks in; kind of a lazy way to get the characters to coalesce and reconcile at the end. lovely peformance by shirley.
