Overhyped unfortunately. I like Anya but this as a project isn’t groundbreaking. There are pretty palates and a female lead, but her character is very one dimensional (as is the supporting cast). I think a lot of viewers will simply write this off as porn with more narrative, but I think Noe really tries to capture the calamity and elusiveness of love, lust, obsession, self-indulgence and self-pity in the mind of a young white straight American male student. I know Noe has toggled between Buenos Aires and Paris so I'm not sure why his approach to the complexity of the emotions in this film is directed mainly from an American's perspective...
