The Zone of Interest 2023
For me cinema is the relationship between the moving image and sound. Music, dialogue, ambience, silence. But when a movie breaks that relationship, ceates a specific disconnection between what you see and what you hear, you cannot help but be unsettled by the sounds out of frame. The Zone of Interest forces you to listen and watch. Listen to the cries and horror of the holocaust. And watch the indifference of those who perpetuated it.

The Marvels 2023
This movie is absolutely wild. Iman Vellani breathes this fresh excitement to the MCU and I had more fun watching this than any other super hero film in a long time. The movie revels in its comic book roots and plays around with all the best parts of ridiculous superhero storytelling.
It's not particularly amazing but in the context of the current MCU it far exceeded my expectations. It's a shame that this film will be the first to compete with massive superhero fatigue but if you're like me, and still stuck in this world, it is a very fun time.
