Once you get on the wavelength of the film, then it's a truly funny, heartwarming rom com. It's BENNY AND JOON with elder adults. Charles Burnett's whimsical touches are charming, capturing a Los Angeles that still exists (shot around Echo Park) with wonderful performances by James Earl Jones and Lynn Redgrave. Extra kudos to Margot Kidder as the landlady.
Hallelujah to Milestone Films for the restoration and getting this lost film back in circulation. It's absurdly charming and lovely, full of great empathy.

Tonally all over the place with varying acting quality but Robert Pattinson is top notch and continues his streak of being the hot weirdo. It's a mishmash of Terry Gilliam, John Carpenter and French graphic novels of Moebius, which is right up my alley, but it's more brutalist than THE BRUTALIST or that New Yorker article about literalism in modern films today. It's less SNOWPIERCER and more OKJA, which honestly I felt was a better film compared to M17.
