Wow wow, more 12 Angry Men coded films please.

This is so intimate, we are sequestered in the conclave alongside all the cardinals for the entire runtime. The sound is so close, that Ralph Fiennes’ breaths are their own character.

Some definite visual inspiration from the renaissance era paintings seen, some very striking shots here.

The most tolerance I’ve had for the Catholic Church in the last 20 years!

This needs to be seen knowing as little as possible.

One of the most beautifully shot films I’ve seen in a long time (proof anyone who doesn’t shoot in 4:3 at least once is a coward!), fantastic performances by the entire cast, and some of the best comedically uncomfortable moments I’ve had to sit through.

1/2 star off because not enough Jacob Elordi, and something being spelled out a little too on the nose near the end from a film that otherwise trusts the viewer.

Wow they really had to try harder before stereo mixing.

This reads and feels incredibly contemporary, despite being nearly 70 years old. There’s diversity enough between the twelve without having any overt or distracting archetypes, and we spend enough time with each to reveal how much they care (or don’t) and what they truly believe.

Just enough camera movement to feel intentional, but the blocking and long takes really emphasize the passage of the real time we spend in this…
