It’s a great portrait of how oppression and patriarchy become ingrained in an individual’s psyche, to the point where one grows indifferent and even hostile toward their own family. Growing up in a society seemingly less oppressive than Iran (but not too far from it), the story felt deeply familiar and profoundly real to me.

Crossing 2024
Istanbul has many faces, and this was one of its ugliest. It took me back to Taksim in the early 2000s, when we witnessed the harsh realities of poverty and its cruelty towards the poor, the children, and the trans people. The movie truly captured the essence of it all. I couldn’t stop crying.
