    watched half last night & half tn, i wish i'd been given a bit more reason to like wai-tung, i feel like all of the main cast are really interesting characters but the investment in the drama of the titular banquet occupied a lot of screen time & resulted in less development/time spent rlly getting to know each character & seeing them in their one-on-one relationships than i might've hoped for,, v interested to see the remake-ish movie that's coming

    chekhov's wine bottle opener & all that,, i think on some levels this feels really well done & on others it feels like an exercise in how much suffering a man can inflict on a woman on screen under the auspice of proving a point abt patriarchy (of a lineage w blink twice in several ways).. to that end i found the contrast in how iris & patrick were handled as characters & treated in the story pretty effective,,, of a canon of sorts…

    ik that obligate carnivores starving by choice for the sake of friendship is a standard of kid's movies & yet,, funny how the premise is roz learning to become "wild" by overcoming her programming while at the same time functionally "civilizing" all the animals by overriding theirs, funny how she must be a woman to do so.... scavengers reign beat this (at least in the context of animation) to the robot abandoning humanity in favor of the planet premise, imo more…
