the mess
I change my top 4 every week.
A fantastic take on toxic masculinity and how men are also allowed to be vulnerable.
It is so evident why Kieran Culkin won the Oscar for this as he had me at the edge of my seat waiting for either a life lesson or the most unhinged shit ever to come out of his mouth.
Both him and Jesse Eisenberg nicely portray the different insecurities and concerns surrounding two very different men related to one another.
(Also Jesse Eisenberg’s performance, although more subtle and simple, isn’t talked about enough).
Although I do not speak French I stand by the fact that this is some of the most beautifully crafted dialogue I have seen in film. It’s full of iconic lines and it is all delivered in such a natural manner. Every conversation feels as if you could be in the character’s position. And that’s what really moved me.
Seeing this in cinemas was such an experience, the laughs and gasps of a crowd brought together by such a powerful picture.
