An amazing revival of an already beloved comic book character. The Batman takes a challenge to redefine the character once again and excels at the task. Robert Pattison does a fantastic performance of the titular character, showing off the passion, humanity, and pain of Bruce Wayne. Reeves does an excellent job of building a story that questions how Batman can change. The cinematography captures the mystery vibe the film is going for, and the action is stellar. Great movie, and I have high hopes for the sequal.

Oppenheimer 2023
A great biopic detailing the life of Oppenheimer. Visually appealing, great use of the black and white vs. the colors for the storytelling, and magnificent performances by all actors, especially Cillian Murphy. It is a very long watch, which is understandably given the story that Nolan wanted to tell, but it does make it hard to rewatch given how much time you would need to give up. Otherwise, an excellent movie.

Blue Beetle 2023
A funny, charming superhero movie that is like a breathe of fresh air among the majority of the other mediocre superhero movies that came out this year. It’s hilarious, it’s emotional, it highlights what is like being latino in America, and it’s a great origin story. The visuals are amazing, thanks in part to them actually designing a costume and minimizing the amount of CGI they used, and the color grade is beautiful. Easily the best movie DC will put out this year.

Barbie 2023
A fun, silly, yet emotional movie with great performances, good music, and beautiful set pieces that make the cinematography look aesthetically pleasing to look at. There could have been an extra 20 minutes to flesh out some characters that I felt didn’t get enough time to shine.
