The visual gimmick of endless pov shots killed the whole piece for me. Some beautiful images, some ingenious, but a hugely dulling effect overall robbed of cinematic language - I was checking my watch after 10 minutes and the content simply washed over me.

I'm Still Here 2024
Mixed feelings. The heart of this story, about the abduction and interrogation of members of a family during a time of political upheaval and corruption in 70s Brazil, is in its core moments so powerful and harrowing to watch. Stan & Ollie 2018
A milquetoast biopic of the star double-act on their final tour of England and Ireland, and a sentimental tribute to their legend. The look of the film is bland but effective - they sure do look like those people did. Guardians of the Galaxy 2014
My dislike of the Guardians films feels like a genuine phobia - I just cannot stand the synthetic nature of every moment of this, and the 'humorous' character interactions literally make me shiver like scraping down a chalkboard. I cannot stand the cynical 80s references, the manchild main character who is the poster boy for MCU infantilization, and the frequent use of obnoxiously overdone and utterly crass cheap sentiment. On first viewing it felt like innocuous filler, but on re-view I honestly think it's poison.
