While not as awesome as Fury Road, Furiosa is a super fun film with plenty of Wasteland mayhem. It seemed like some corners were cut with special effects here and there, and felt a step below how Fury Road felt with its incredible practical effects.
Rarely does a kaiju monster movie actually scare me. This movie accomplished that. It topped the scale that Garett Edward’s 2014 Godzilla created for his monsters, making our main characters feel truly small and insignificant in the presence of the King of the Monsters.
And speaking of characters, the movie annihilated the preconceived notion that monster movies have awful stories (which they normally do). Minus One is a great insight into letting go of the past, working towards a better future, the blessing of found family and family alike, and how a nation like Japan showed perhaps it’s greatest strength after WWII.
Beautifully filmed and excellent acting. Some tweaks to the real life story were made, but nothing that impacted the message of dealing with grief and loss. I am proud to say that I was crying and heard sniffles throughout the theater
